Mandatory Menu Reviews

At Clever Bite Dietitians, we provide comprehensive menu assessments to ensure menus are nutritionally balanced, varied, culturally appropriate, enjoyable, and able to accommodate all dietary requirements and medical needs, while aligning with Australia’s Strengthened Aged Care Standards. Annual Mealtime Experience Assessments are also undertaken in accordance with Standard 6. Nutrition-related policies and procedures can also be reviewed to help facilities enhance their food and nutrition practices and support their broader Standard 6 initiatives.

Nutritional Adequacy Assessment

Menus are evaluated to ensure they provide adequate nutrition and hydration to support healthy ageing, maintain weight, and reduce the risk of malnutrition. This includes assessing whether menus provide sufficient protein and an appropriate balance of foods from all five food groups to meet the nutritional needs of older adults.

Special Dietary Requirements

Menus are assessed to ensure they are appropriate for all consumers including those with special dietary requirements related to

●        texture modified needs,

●        preferences including vegetarian, pescatarian

●        different cultures

●        food allergies and intolerances including gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance

●        high energy & high protein needs

Compliance with Strengthened Aged Care Standards

Reviewing and supporting adherence to the Strengthened Aged Care Standards including:

·       Consumer feedback and involvement

·       Consumer choice and access

·       Use and detail of dietary care plans

·       Nutrition related policies, procedures

·       Nutrition related training and resources

·       Staff assistance with meals

·       Food temperature and food safety

·       Inclusion of varying cultures, ethnicities and cognitive abilities

Mealtime Experience

Reviewing current mealtime practises and partnering with services to improve this experience.

Recommendations and Reporting

Following the review, facilities receive a detailed report outlining strengths, opportunities for improvement, and practical recommendations to enhance consumer satisfaction and nutrition outcomes. This can be followed by a meeting with the facility to discuss the findings further, explore potential strategies, and work collaboratively to support continuous improvement.
